That's exactly it, Dan. If a woman does these things, it doesn't bear comment, but if a man does them, then it's all fawning obsequiousness. I wish we could just reach a place where it didn't draw comment either way, just as I wish we could reach a place where sexual orientation and marital status didn't really draw comment either.

Interesting point on sex appeal . . . I think your hawtness must immediately be multiplied by a factor of five if you're a dad and out and about with your bub: the inherent attraction of a dependable, loyal man (those who are willing to breed and stay. Wow! What a combo).

I couldn't agree more Tom. Viv (my back-at-work wife) gets really frustrated at that exact attitude - that she's evil for neglecting her homely duties and returning to work, and I'm an absolute catch of a saintly gem for staying at home with our bub. And the extra rub is if she were at home she'd get no praise other than - "that's well and proper". Another point here (sorry for the ramble) is sex-appeal. SAHDs get second and third glances when out with their bubs, no matter how dusty dirty dog they look and feel. But Viv reckons it's the opposite for her. Men look at her - the stroller - and their off!
Great blog.
